SPD3159FOODS IN HONG KONG-Sweetheart cake 老婆餅

A sweetheart cake is a traditional Chinese pastry with flaky and thin skin made with winter melon, almond paste, and sesame, and spiced with five spice powder (Chinese spice blend of fennel seed, star anise, licorice root and cloves). Sweetheart cake also known as or wife cake, which is the literal translation of Low Paw Bang from Cantonese dialect. There are many classes held in Hong Kong for making sweetheart cakes. The sweetheart cake, though it has such a long history, is still popular among many in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Many people in Hong Kong, as well as professional chefs, bake also "modern" varieties of this cake.

There has a story about the wife cake. The man went searching for his wife after he earned enough money to buy her back. In his search, he had a cup of tea at a local teahouse, when he suddenly recognized the pastry they were serving with the tea. They were reunited at the teahouse.

In Hong Kong, Hang Heung Cake Shop and Wing Wah Cake shop are well known brand produce cake especially wife cake. I suggest that you may go to Wing Wah to buy that cake, because they provide the fresh wife cake to you.

SPD3159FOODS IN HONG KONG- Dragon's beard candy

Dragon's beard candy or  called Chinese cotton candy, is a traditional Chinese sweet similar to spun sugar found in many Chinese communities. It is said to have been invented for the emperor about 2,000 years ago It consists of many very fine strands of sugar, giving it the imagined appearance and consistency of a fine beard, like that of a dragon.

Preparation
The candy is made by cooking a saturated maltose solution until it has thickened and then leaving it to chill into a solid puck. The resulting solid, which is elastic, is formed into a torus and then repeatedly pulled and folded over, doubling the number of strands after each repetition. While the candy is being folded it is kept covered in toasted glutinous flour, in order to keep the strands from sticking together.

SPD3159 SPD 3159 Chinken Hot Pot(雞煲)

We have introduced many Hong Kong foods already. All of them are very delicious, and famous. But those of the food you can found it in Hong Kong guide. This time, I am going to introduce some food which you may not found in and guide book --Chicken hot pot.

Chicken hot pot cannot be named as famous in Hong Kong. But it doesn’t mean it is not delicious.

Chicken hot pot is a pot which contain chicken and spice like onion ,coriander(芫茜),ginger ,chili etc. The way the mix with the ingredient is perfect. Of course, only this ingredient cannot mix such a good taste of the chicken hot pot. I believe they have their own secret to adjust the taste.

Chicken hot pot doesn’t like traditional hot pot, when it served on the table; the chicken is already place in the pot. When the soup in the pot is boiled, you can add more additional side dishes in the pot, like beef, vegetable, noodles. You can add everything whatever you like.

This is the menu of the shop

正

For me, I like to add noodles in to the pot. Because the sauce is the spirit of the chicken hot pot, after the noodles absorb the sauce of the chicken and spice, it becomes the most delicious food in the pot.
