SPD3159 SPD 3159 Egg Tart (港式蛋撻)

In Hong Kong you can find egg tart in many places, like bakery, restaurant, Chinese tea house. Egg tart really is a common food of Hong Kong people. People usually treat it as a breakfast or snack in tea time.

Originally, all egg tart pastry is made of shortcrust pastry. The texture of shortbread pastry(餅皮麵團) is very savory, just like a cookie. Later on, some bakeries and restaurants change to use puff pastry(酥皮麵團). Which is crisper and look elegant. But puff pastry egg tart still can not dominate the market. Because shortcrust pastry egg tart still has a lot of loyalty fans .Like me =]

shortcrust pastry egg tart (餅皮蛋撻)
  puff pastry egg tart(酥皮蛋撻)

One of my favorite egg tart is come from Tai Cheong Bakery(泰昌餅家).This is a very popular bakery, because the former Governor of Hong Kong Christopher Francis Patten like the egg tart from this bakery very much.
The egg tart in this shop is really tasty.Every time I eat it is very hot. The texture of the pastry is crispy. The smell of the egg is very sweet. And the portion of the egg and pastry is perfect.

There are many branches of this bakery. You can easy to find it. But in my experience, egg tart in head-quarter of Central is the tastiest one. This is the address of the Central head-quarter.

SPD3159 SPD 3159 -- Yakitori(串燒)

Yakitori(串燒)
When you by pass the (阜財街)Fau Tsui Sheet of Yuen Long. A strong tasty smell will catch your attention.Which is the taste of the yakitori.
Fau Tsui Sheet is the paradise of yakitori. Over six yakitori shop aggregated in this sheet.串皇,妙舒,薪意etc.Those of the Yakitori shop are well known and providing yummy yakitori.

串皇 is my favorite yakitori shop in Hong Kong .There are many choose of yakitori. Pork, beef, chicken, corn, squid etc.
The most delicious one in串皇 is beef. Because the beef is uncooked before burning ,we need to wait for around eight minutes to wait for the food. After the burning process, you can match it with the sauce provided by the shop. Although the beef process a buring, all juice still locked in the beef. And the beef is totally matched with the sauce provide by the shop. After you finished the beef ,you will think it is totally worthwhile to wait for the yakitori

SPD3159 FOOD-Street side stalls in Hong Kong (香港街頭小食)

There are many street side stalls in Hong Kong, especially in Mong Kok. Street side stalls is a stall providing variety cooked snack including curry fishball, Siu-Mai(燒賣), sausage, squid ,smelly beancurd(臭豆腐)  etc.

Usually the price of these snack are cheap. Each of them cost around $6-$8.Most of the Hong Kong people cannot refuse the glamour of street snacks. Having street snacks become a living habit in their life.

Generally, the raw material of fishball ,siu-Mai is nearly the same .The main different of each stall is the sauce. Every street side stalls will have their own signature sauce; it makes customers addicted with their snack.

If you interest to try those of the feature street snack, I strongly recommend  南華美食  in Soy Street ,Mong Kok to you .The curry sauce of the fishball and squid are wonderful.Once you try the fishball in this stall, you cannot forget how taste of their signature sauce.

What is China Cafe(冰室)?:

China Cafe(冰室) , the one type of restaurant only provide Cold drink, ice-cream and snack. It is not same with Cantonese-style restaurant (茶餐廳) because China Cafe(冰室)have not provided the set of lunch or dinner with rice. Compare with Cantonese-style restaurant (茶餐廳) , China Cafe(冰室) have not enough type of foods to provide. The major products are snack such as French toast, noodles and sandwich.

In fact, China Cafe(冰室) will provide some set of lunch right now to deal with the Cantonese-style restaurant (茶餐廳)competition.

Today, I want to introduce one typical style of China Cafe(冰室) in Tai Kok Tsui.

This is one nice China Cafe(冰室) in Tai Kok Tsui. It retains a typical outlook and decoration for all consumers. Also, it provide a good taste food and acceptable price for all Hong Kongers.

The typical food in China Cafe(冰室):

 Nice ice with red bean.

Excellent crisp toast, omelet and macaroni
These decoration are the typical type for China Cafe(冰室)
Stay in here just like live in 1950-70’S time. You can feel that the atmosphere of the China Cafe(冰室) is very different with general restaurant.

You can taste a delicious food and feel the old-Hong Kong atmosphere in here. In fact, it is not expensive of this China Cafe(冰室) foods so that it is worth for us to try once.

Shrimp dumplings

Barbecued buns with pork

Beef balls

In the early, there were some of the employees pushing the trolley round and round in the restaurant, if there have your favor food you may make an order, then they will deliver the food for you. If you don’t want to waste time, you may go out and then look for what you want to eat. But nowadays, they had been changed the format by make an order on the list. You only need to choose the foods on the order sheet, and then waiting for your foods. It has more efficient.

If you want to try those delicious foods, I recommend that you may go to the Chinese restaurant, for instance, Super Star seafood restaurant (鴻星海鮮酒家), Maxim’s Chinese Restaurant (美心大酒樓) and Tao Heung Restaurant (稻香酒家).

pigeon 乳鴿 spd 3159 food spd 3159 food in Hong Kong

龍華酒店Lung Wah Hotel

Today I want to introduce one famous food and hotel in Sha tin which is Lung Wah hotel pigeon.

Sha tin Lung Wah pigeon dishes were one of the Hong Kong gourmet brands that even <New York Times> has already introduced about these 30 years ago.

The hotel will only use 26 days old baby pigeons and especially hired one chef to cook the pigeon dishes to maintain the standard.

The hotel had make a one record, thousand of pigeons can be sold in just one day because of the hotel maintain a good standard.

The pigeon are juicy and skin crispy.

There is some Pigeon meat floss for foreigners. For example, It is a dish wrapped by fresh lettuce with stir-fried fillings like finely chopped pigeon meat, mushrooms, bamboo shoots and carrots.

Therefore, you can choose what your favor cooking method to eat the pigeon in Lung Wah.

In fact, the Lung Wah hotel is the one special place in Hong Kong because it has preserved  some decorations of the Hong Kong 50-60s Hotel style so you can enjoy the food and view here as well.
